Last 2 weeks…

Well, I feel like it’s so hard to get time to myself these days, but it’s soooooooo worth it!  Gavin is such a good baby.  He rarely cries unless he’s gassy or hungry.  He is such a sweet boy.  It’s still crazy that Mike and I are parents but we love it.  Gavin sleeps ok.  There have been two nights where he has slept for 5 hours straight.  We hope to be able to continue this, but we’ll see.  It only took me about a week to feel human again.  ;)   I’m feeling really good and am really enjoying being a mom.  Here are some pictures of our family over the last 2 weeks of Gavin’s life.  Can you believe he’s already 15 days old??  I sure can’t!

Gavin’s cousin love to hold him.  I need pictures with Lauren and Kayley too.  Help Emily or Annette???

Gavin went to both Mom and Dad’s work to meet their co-workers on Friday July 25th.  Everyone loved him of course.  Mom got him all dressed up to go.  The shoes are “newborn” but still way to big so those stayed at home.

Our little monkey.  Look at his monkey toes!!! 7/24

Look how cute he is at 3 days old.  He’s such a strong kid.  Unfortunately the picture is blurry, but look at him holding his head up.  Getting stronger every day! 7/16

Gavin’s Arrival

So, for anyone who hasn’t heard the story…

I started have real contractions Saturday morning around 2 or 3.  They were sporadic and not too painful but were definitely different than the braxton’s I’d been having since about week 24.  I had a Girl’s Night planned with Annette and Emily and while I was talking to Emily asking her questions about real contractions she and Annette decided I was in labor (early labor of course).  So, Mike and I still did our shopping and I still went our with the girls.  Annette mentioned to our waitress I was in labor and the waitress kind of freaked out and said, “I’m not cleaning up after if your water breaks.”  It was funny and we had a great time.  I was still have non-consistant contractions through out the day and night.  About 1:45 I started waking every 30-45 minutes, then closer and closer together.  Some were pretty painful.  About 4:40 am I counted them for the next hour or so and they were 8-12 min apart and not feeling good.  I woke up Mike and said I wanted to go.

So, they put me in the NST room and checked me and I was still dilated to a 4.  They monitored me for the next hour and my contractions were about every 4 min apart.  When she checked me again I was STILL at a 4.  :(   So, my options were call the dr and he’d probably send me home with morphine for the pain, or walk around the maternity ward and see if we could get my contractions to get me to dilate more. We decided to walk.  I had about 9 contractions but only had to stop for 3 of them.  They didn’t seem that much stronger than the others.  I was so sure I would be going home.  After walking for 40 min, nst for another 20, she checked my cervix.  At this point, the nurse, Mike and myself all thought I’d be going home.  She checked and to all of  our surprise I was at a 5!!!  She called the dr and he had me admitted.  I got my epidural about 45 min later and then 45 min after that they checked me again and I still wasn’t progressing so they started me on pitocin.  By about 1 pm i was at an 8.  She came back 45 min or so later and checked again and stretched it out so i was at a 10.  She called the dr and he said to have me start pushing.  I started pushing at 2:19 and he was born at 2:50.  My epidural worked GREAT!  It was exactly what I wanted.  I didn’t feel any pain, but I was in control of my body.  I could still feel the pressure and I could move myself.  Gavin weighed 7 lbs 12 ounces and was 20 inches long.  Bigger than we thought he’d be, but he’s adorable.

Because the epidural had worn off and I was doing so well I got to go and watch them give Gavin his first bath.  I thought this was really neat.  I forgot to have Mike take any pictures of me, but he did get it on video that I was there.

We are so happy Gavin is here with us.  He is such a cute and precious boy.  He is definitly a gift from God and we feel blessed to have him.

Having contractions but not feeling them!

Mike enjoying my lunch since I was stuck with clear liquids.  At least I got more than ice chips!!

Dad holding his son for the first time.

Mom getting to hold her son after she was all cleaned up.

Happy Family!

First bath.  He did such a good job!

Aw, scrubbing the head.

Such a cute and proud dad.

Mike held him so I could get some sleep too.  (Guess I’m not sleeping if I’m taking the picture)

He’s so little in his car seat!  Let’s go home!

Sunday Delivery

Nicole and I seem to have our roles in blogging, so I’m going to let her handle the touchy-feely stuff and I’ll point out the “other” things.

First, as we were sitting in the room watching Nicole’s contractions spike on the monitor while not spiking through Nicole’s body (thanks to modern drugs), we had a couple knock on the door asking if we would like to take the sacrament. They were from LDS services. They also asked if I would like to participate so I did. After we finished and the couple left, Nicole pointed out to me an interesting fact that I had overlooked – I had just blessed the sacrament while wearing a Metallica concert shirt. How’s that for water and oil? I thought it was pretty cool though.

Then there’s his birth date – 7/13/08 at 2:50 PM MST. It’s a pretty significant birth date for a few reasons: he has a great uncle who shares it, he was ‘implanted’ on Halloween and is fitting that he have a birthday that will fall on Friday the 13th every once in a while, 7 lbs 12 oz was his weight, 7 + 13 = 20 which was his length in inches, and 7 is considered to be a lucky number while 13 is considered to be an unlucky one so it fits both his parents pretty well, too. Those of you who know Nicole and I well will understand.

‘Nuff said.

Mike

Memory Lane…
I got this from a blog I check up on. It could be fun and interesting. Here are the directions:

1. As a comment on my blog, leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn’t matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember!

2. Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. It’s actually pretty funny to see the responses.

Thanks in advance for participating!

False “alarm” :(

Well, I woke up this morning and i had blood in my underwear.  It was more than just spotting and even had a small little clot in it.  I ALMOST went back to bed, but thought better of it and called the women’s center since it was 7am and my dr office wasn’t open yet.  I talked to a nurse who talked to the on-call dr and they said to come on down to the hospital just to check things over.  So, we got dressed, grabbed our bags and headed over.  There were lots of babies being born so we waited in the waiting room for about 40 min.  The on-call dr came out and had us walk over to my dr office to do a NST (non-stress test).  My dr office is connected to the hospital.  Gavin was really active during the test.  He got the hiccups and Mike was able to see my tummy bounce and watch the heartbeat raise and fall.  So that was fun.  Unfortuantely during the test I didn’t have too many contractions (not like before and after the test).  The on-call dr came over and checked my cervix and it was still the same as it was on Monday.  :(   Dissappointment!!!  I’m so ready for this little guy to come!  The bleeding was just from the cervix stretching and nothing to worry about this time.  I really didn’t want to go to the hospital and be sent home, but I did call first and they told me to come.  That makes it better, right??  Needless to say we are so happy that Gavin is doing ok, but sad he’s not on his way yet.  I’m so grateful for medical technology that can help us know that things are ok though!

Update at 38 weeks

Ξ July 8th, 2008 | → 2 Comments | ∇ General |

Had my doctor’s appointment yesterday.  Dr Young was very busy so after waiting for more than 40 min in my room Heather, i can’t remember her title, came in to check me out.  My stomach is still measuring one week behind, so 37 weeks.  Gavin’s heartbeat sounded great.  She then proceeded to feel my stomach to see if she could tell here Gav is.  She said “we need to check the position of this baby”.  Then she does the check and made a little noise of surprise and said, “well that’s why, you’re at a 4.”  Gav’s head was already down.  So, I’m dilating, but she said you could be at a 4 for a long time.   <sigh>  I asked her at what point would they induce.  She said no matter what by 41 weeks, but as early as 39.  She then asked me if I wanted to have this baby next week.  I told her I should talk to Mike first.  We most likely will just wait, but set it up to induce on his due date if he hasn’t come already.  We are REALLY hoping he comes sooner, like in the next couple of days, but it’s up to him when he’s ready I guess.  We are super excited and can’t wait to hold our little guy in our arms.
